Recent news

Unfortunately we seem to be subject to another outbreak of onion downy mildew this year.  The fungal attack destroys the growing tops of the onion and can make the neck spongey and soft. The keeping quality of the onion is severely affected if the infection spreads to the bulb. If you want to try to keep your onions, then cut the growing tops off and lift them immediately. Store them in a cool dark place and check regularly for any softening off or rot. Dispose of the infected tops carefully, do not compost them!!

The affected onion plot should not be used for growing any of the onion family for 4 years.

Nothing is ever new!!

Many thanks to one of our (few) non members for providing this piece of history from 1998. It appears that we are not as radical, reactionary or revolutionary as some people feel. Our hopes for the site are no different from the views put forward by a visionary some 17 years ago. Unfortunately the resistance and inertia from our elected representatives seems to prevent bringing Connah's Quay into the 21st Century. Its alright to support charities to provide toilets to third world countries but not Connahs Quay!!

A duck race will take place on Wepre Brook on Sunday 19th of July with ducks under orders for race one at 2.00 pm. Everyone will meet under the bandstand at 1.30 where light refreshments and snacks will be available. I did hear that there would be scones and butter and home made jam!!

Some plants will be available for purchase and we hope you can come along and take part in the festivities.
