ABOUT OUR ALLOTMENTS
We are an Allotment Association affiliated to the NSALG. We are based in North Wales and work a selection of plots at the Mill Lane Site in Connah's Quay. The Association was formed in July 2014 with the primary aim of developing and improving the site and its surrounding environment.
We have an active social section and have had several "socials" around the site. Some pictures of our barbecues are included to give you a flavour of the atmosphere. We do have several members who are very capable home brewers and as such Elderflower wine features heavily in most of our outdoor activities!!
We are very lucky with the location of our plots, bordered on one side by Wepre Brook at its extreme tidal reach and on the other by a pedestrian lane. Some notable sitings in the brook lately have been kingfishers, mallard and brown trout. Sticklebacks are reputed to inhabit the non tidal section at the top of the site.
The plots themselves are probably smaller than most but this means we have approaching 40 under cultivation with the vast majority of plotholders being Association members.

Sadly we are now at that time of year when, as our crops mature, some people believe it is alright to come and help themselves.
Now we are certain that its people from off the site as no plot holder would go and take produce from someone else's plot...
So PLEASE if you have lost produce from your plot notify the police, let someone from the committee know and notify The Clerk via info@connahs-quay.co.uk or by telephone on 01244 819420. This is important, we need to ensure that all concerned are aware. It is not just a couple of onions, it is theft.
After all you would be arrested for shoplifting if you dropped into Morrisons and grabbed a handful of carrots and walked out!
It would help tremendously if we all could ensure the gate was closed. It is a bit of a pfaff getting in and out of vehicles and I know that a closed gate wont stop someone.
BUT if they open a gate to come on to private property they are committing a
COMMON TRESPASS
Early March and the snow has fallen. The much anticipated seed order has arrived and Antony has done the rounds getting everyone's order out to them. Many thanks to all who used the Association this year for their order. Apart from getting very competitively priced seeds a small amount of the proceeds go to the Association. This time of year, I think is the most exciting..... new beginnings, new crops and new members!
The Committee have been working hard with several external bodies and we hope to be able to bring you news of exciting things happening this year. We hope to be able to work with Groundworks North Wales on the "Our Back Yard" project with some innovative projects to get fresh veg grown in the community.
We will be creating an "Our Back yard" page on the website and provide links to all of the activities going on around Connahs Quay so please keep an eye out for the changes.
It's that time of year again.
